Islamabad:April 25:As many as 156 graduates of Hamdard University, Islamabad Campus, were awarded with degrees in its 9th Degree Awarding Ceremony 2012 held here on Tuesday.
Ambassador of Republic of Cuba Zenen Buergo Concepcion was invited as the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan was also invited on the occasion.
The convocation began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’aan.
Hamdard University Vice Chancellor Professor Nasim A. Khan, while speaking on the occasion, said that faculty development environments are very conducive in Hamdard University as currently 16% i.e. fifty-nine faculty members are undergoing various stages of training or education either MPhil or PhD. All programmes of Hamdard University are formally recognised by relevant regulating bodies that include Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, Pakistan Engineering Council, Tibb Council, Pakistan Bar Council, Pharmacy Council of Pakistan and above all Higher Education Commission.
In the field of research, Hamdard University has made decent contribution by producing 87 PhD research thesis, 31 originally authored books in different fields, produced 75 MPhils and published 299 papers in journals of international repute since its inception.
Dr. Nasim A. Khan, a respected name in the sphere of alternative resources of energy, said: “The Hamdard University has chosen to focus on one of key areas of economic development of the country i.e. energy. The university has thus established a Department of Energy Engineering with state-of-the-art engineering laboratories and project sciences.”
Director General of Hamdard University (Islamabad Campus) Dr. Nazeer Ahmad said that Hamdard University, Islamabad Campus, has three institutes in disciplines of Engineering, Management and Pharmaceutical Sciences. “At present, we have more than one thousand students; whereas, so far more than two thousand and three hundred students have graduated. Today 156 graduates are being awarded with degrees: 47 in Business Administration, 38 in Engineering and IT and 71 in Pharmaceutical Sciences.” He said that their alumni are very well placed in public and private sector.
Hamdard University Chancellor S.M. Zafar paid tribute to Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, one of the eminent physicians of eastern medicine, philanthropist and the founder Chancellor of Hamdard University. He said that Hamdard University, Islamabad Campus, is making a perceptible progress in academic and extracurricular activities.
Cuban Ambassador Zenen Buergo Concepcion said that in education, Pakistan and Cuba relations are exemplary. Between 2007 and 2008, as part of a scholarship programme offered by the Government of Cuba, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) sent around 1,000 youngsters to Cuba to study medicine. Today more than 900 Pakistanis are studying medicine, out of which around 300 will obtain their General Doctor degree next year. The rest will graduate in 2014. While describing Pak-Cuba relations the Cuban Ambassador said that our beloved countries established diplomatic relations 56 year ago. It has been a friendly relation during all these years and touched new heights in 2005, in the aftermath of the unfortunate and devastating earthquake that hit Pakistan on October 8, 2005.
President Hamdard Foundation Pakistan Sadia Rashid said Cuban Ambassador Zenen Buergo Concepcion does us great honour by gracing this occasion — and, thereby, shows us his love of learning and his country’s encouragement for the cause of education. It is perhaps the single most important ingredient for progress. Founder-Chancellor, Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, is a constant reminder to us all of what one man can do.
