KOHAT: During a protest against the Kohat varsity administration on Friday, around 25 students sustained injuries and 255 were arrested after the police baton-charged and fired teargas, sources said.
The sources said the students of the Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) were protesting against the administration on the second consecutive day when police baton charged them.
The injured students were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kohat, the sources said and added that the police also baton charged the candidates appearing in the examination.
Umair Paracha, president of the student union of the KUST, warned of giving countrywide call for protest if the arrested students were not released and the Vice-Chancellor Nasir Jamal not removed from his post forthwith.
The students of the KUST had accused the vice-chancellor of allegedly taking extra fees from the students for examination and degrees and also delaying the degree awarding process.
The students started a protest campaign against the administration on Thursday and ransacked the offices and classrooms.
