Islamabad:February 10: Five persons including Advisor to Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), President People’s Students Federation (PSF) of GB and a petitioner who has challenged the appointment of Chief Judge of GB in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, have been booked in Islamabad on the allegation of creating strife during the oath taking ceremony in GB House in Islamabad Tuesday night in the presence of Governor of GB Pir Karam Ali Shah and Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah.
The Secretariat police confirmed that FIR has been lodged against five persons on the complaint of administrator GB House in Islamabad. The police sources said that Dr Ghulam Abbas, who has challenged the appointment of Chief Judge in the Apex Court, Manzoor Bagoro, Advisor to the CM GB, Babu Astori, President PSF GB, Mohammad Kashir Bajanni and Malik Nadeem are among the accused nominated by the administrator GB House.
The sources said that participants of the ceremony of oath taking of Chief Judge Rana Mohammad Arshad, who was retired session judge belonging to Okara and had served as judge Punjab High Court for about one year.
The sources of GB House said that the controversy erupted among the administrative authorities and the PPP leadership on the issue of appointment of Chief Judge after the retirement of former Chief Judge Mr Nawaz Abbasi on 14th January, 2012. The judge, capable for the highest post was Saeed Jafar Shah and the second senior most judge eligible for the office of Chief Judge was Mohammad Yaqoob, but the government decided to appoint Rana Mohammad Arshad against merit despite severe opposition from the party leadership.
The participants chanted slogans against the Governor, CM and the authorities responsible for the appointment of Chief Judge and created disturbance in the ceremony, the GB House sources said adding that the administration called the police who detained some miscreants but the administration of GB House, Anwar Jamal lodged a written complaint with the Secretariat Police Station and nominated five persons including Dr Ghulam Abbas who challenged the appointment in the Supreme Court of Pakistan as well as Manzoor Bagoro, the Advisor to the CM GB. The police have taken up the case and started hunting for the nominated miscreants.The news.
