ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will observe Independence Day on August 14, 2011 at University auditorium with traditional zeal and fervor, AIOU spokesman said on Friday. Children from University colony and staff will participate in celebration of the Independence Day in which students will sing special patriotic songs and speeches contests would also be held amongst the students on the importance of Independence Day. This was decided in a meeting of the committee constituted for Independence Day Celebrations. As a chief guest of the event, Vice-Chancellor AIOU Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi will hoist the national flag at the premises of University and will speech to the gathering on the struggle for freedom and Independence Day. Online interviews of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Sangi and the Chairman, Department of Pakistan Studies, Dr. Amanullah Memon will put on air while nonstop live transmission of “Voice of AIOU” FM Radio of the University. The University would be adorned with colorful bunting, banners of Independence Day and posters. Rare pictures of freedom heroes would be displayed at different places inside the University. At the end, Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi, will give away prizes and gifts to the winners of national songs and speech contests.
AIOU appointed Qasim Haider as Director : AIOU has given additional charge as Director Public Relations (PR) to Muhammad Qasim Haider, Director Institute of Educational Technology (IET), AIOU and assigned him the image building task, print and electronic publicity, information dissemination, public relations and protocol responsibilities. According to notification issued by Registrar’s Department, Ubaidullah Mumtaz, Public Relation Officer (PRO) will work under the supervision of Director IET.Daily Times.
