Islamabad:30 August: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is engaged in setting up model study centres and regional campuses throughout the country, especially in deprived and far-flung areas. The move aims at ending illiteracy, poverty and backwardness in the country.
"Our teachers are playing a vital role in promoting the university's mission," AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi told a delegation of teachers who called on him under the headship of Academic Staff Association (ASA) President Prof Dr Syed Zafar Ilyas Ahmed on Wednesday. The ASA delegation praised initiatives taken by the vice chancellor for the welfare of university's teachers, officers, employees and students. The delegation said that the Student Support Fund established by the vice chancellor to help the needy and underprivileged students to continue their studies would prove to be a landmark initiative in the country's overall development.
