ISLAMABAD: Quaid-e-Azam Post Graduate Medical College (QPGMC) Master of Surgery (MS) student has served a legal notice on Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Vice Chancellor (VC) for a change in examination pattern, which the QPGMC students claim affected them.
Dr Habibur Rehman, currently deputed in Policlinic and a student of MS at QPGMC served the notice through his lawyer Shabir Ahmed Nasir stating that he got registration in MS in April 2004 and his training completed on April 23rd, 2008. He submitted his thesis approved by the concerned authority. The rules regarding MD/MS program were amended in April 2010 and apparently the rules approved by the competent authority are always prospective in nature and the same could not be applied retrospectively. Rehman claimed that QPGMC conducted the examination of students of MD/MS registered in 2004 and before under the new rules, which was unlawful and without effect.
It was further stated that the matter was brought to the notice of VC QAU Masoom Yasin Zai who, neither any of his subordinate, bothered to response. Some 500 affected students have since decried the admin’s decision to conduct examinations under new regulations.
It was stated that in case VC does not respond within 15 days of receipt of the notice a case would be filed in Islamabad High Court against VC and other responsible officers and cost of litigation would be recoverable from VC.
Quaid-e-Azam University syndicate has altered the pattern of examination for the Masters of Surgery (MS) and Masters of Medicine (MB) due to which 46 candidates who appeared in exams faced ‘problems’. Besides, there are over 500 doctors preparing theses fear the same problem in coming years.
Talking to Daily Times, the QAU VC said that if the doctors were registered before the amendment in regulations their exams should be conducted according to the old patron. He said that he had convened an emergency meeting on coming Friday at 10:30 regarding the issue and asked the decrying doctors to attend the meeting.
However, Dr Rehman said that his cell number was also mentioned in the notice he served. So if VC wants to insure our attendance in the meeting he or any other on his behalf should call us attend the meeting, he said.Daily times.
