Awareness programme to guard youth against drugs

ISLAMABAD:27 April: Ministry of Narcotics Control (MNC) has launched an awareness lecture programme at university level to educate youth and outline the harms of drugs. The first series of lectures started from the Air University on Thursday.

Planning and Monitoring Unit (PMU) director general at the MNC delivered the first lecture on threat of narcotics to society and vulnerable youth.

During the lecture, it was informed that the use of drug among youth is increasing alarmingly, as 50 percent of total drug addicts in Pakistan are between 15 and 30 years of age. He said that sheesha-smoking was being considered a status symbol and people wrongly perceive it less harmful.

Earlier, Narcotics Control Division Secretary Zafar Abbas Lak revealed some key initiatives taken by the MNC, adding that a programme for development of community leaders has been initiated at district level.Daily Times.
