Blasts damage school in Swabi

SWABI:March 02: Two bomb blasts at a school in Yar Hussain village badly damaged the building early Thursday, officials said. They said about 1,000 students had been acquiring education at the Government High School (Boys) No 1 Yar Hussain, which remained open on Thursday despite the explosion.

When contacted, the Yar Hussain Police Station personnel said the bombs exploded one after the other at 2:30 a.m. and the bangs were heard far and wide. Two watchmen, Raheel Khan and Akhtar Ali, were at the school when the explosions took place.

The officials said due to presence of watchmen, the suspected militants planted the bombs outside walls of the classrooms. Both the watchmen failed to catch or even see any suspected person before and after the blasts.

A case was later registered against unidentified persons at the Yar Hussain Police Station. No group claimed responsibility for blowing up the schools in the district so far.
