Buddhist archaeologist visits TIAC

ISLAMABAD:March 11: Professor Emeritus Dr. Koji Nishikawa, former President of Kyoto University, Japan visited Taxila Institute of Asian Civilizations (TIAC) today. He delivered a lecture on the Buddhist heritage of Gandhara Civilization focused on the Buddhist monasteries of Makha Sanda, Tharelli and Rani Gat in district Mardan and Buner, says a press release.

The professor is one the few renowned Japanese archaeologists who has been conducting excavation since 1960 in the districts of Mardan and Buner when he was a young research assistant. He has been engaged in excavations till 1989. He has also conducted excavation on the very important site of Chanaka Dheri in distract Mardan.

Professor Dr. Koji has published numerous books and articles on the various aspects of the Buddhist Art in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He, during the lecture said that under the project of Pak-Japan-UNESCO Trust Fund the Buddhist monastery of Rani Gat has been preserved.The news.
