PESHAWAR:17 December: Up to 185 graduates of the management sciences, computer sciences, commerce, civil and electrical engineering were awarded degrees at the annual convocation of CECOS University of IT & Emerging Sciences, Peshawar.
Governor Masood Kausar, who is also the patron-in-chief of CECOS University, was the chief guest and Syed Aqil Shah, Provincial Minister for Sports and Culture, was the guest of honour.
Apart from conferring degrees, 32 gold medals were also awarded to the graduates who earned first position in the relevant disciplines. Due to the poor law and order in this part of the country, the convocation of CECOS University could not be held since 2006 and the 32 gold medallists were from the session 2007 to 2011.
The governor stressed the importance of quality education for the socio-economic development of the country and appreciated the efforts of CECOS University in supplementing the government efforts in providing quality education.
CECOS President Muhammad Tanveer Javed said with a humble start in 1986 the CECOS educational institutions achieved the status of a university on August 31, 2001. He said 17,000 students had graduated from CECOS University so far and most of them were serving in various government and autonomous organizations while about 3,000 students were currently on roll in various disciplines at its three campuses at Peshawar.
