Education a stepping-stone to explore new horizons

Islamabad:17 March:The 8th Convocation of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU), Islamabad, was held at the Jinnah Convention Centre here on Thursday. Over 620 graduates from different disciplines were awarded with degrees in the convocation.
Renowned nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan graced the occasion as chief guest. MAJU Chancellor Mian Amer Mahmood presided over the convocation. Members of the MAJU Board of Governors and a large number of parents of the graduating students attended the ceremony.
Dr. A Q Khan congratulated students on their academic achievements. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts and contribution of the university and its vice chancellor in the field of higher education. “Education does not end by acquiring a degree. In fact, it is a stepping-stone to explore new horizons, broaden the vision and march towards new frontiers of knowledge. The role of higher education becomes more prominent and wide-ranging. Today’s generation has more opportunities that we had in our times. I studied in a government school and sat on ‘taat’, but the result of that is all in front of you,” he said.
Dr. A Q Khan urged students to study hard and be focused on their studies and be faithful to themselves and their country. He said that all governments have facilitated his work and respected him. “Wherever I go, I receive respect from everybody, this is my biggest asset that I have gathered in my life,” he said.

Earlier, Dr. M. Mansoor Ahmed, executive vice president of the MAJU, congratulated the graduates and highlighted the contribution made by the university in the field of higher education. He hoped that the graduates would contribute to scientific and technological development of the country through their ability, dignity, determination and commitment. He informed that the university has earned a prominent position amongst its competitors by putting high emphasis on R&D activities and its graduate programmes.

Khurram Shahzad, Ansir Ali Rajput, Shahid Ali, Sajid Bashir in the field of Management Sciences, Imtiaz Ahmed Sajid, Mudassar Abbas Rizvi, Sohail Iqbal, Syed Junaid Nawaz, Nabeel Ali Khan in the field of Electronic Engineering and Syed Zubair Ahmed in the field of Computer Science received their PhD degrees on the occasion.

In recognition of research work and meritorious service for the country, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan was awarded with a Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science by the Mohammad Ali Jinnah University chancellor.

The chief guest awarded 43 medals — 17 gold medals, 18 silver medals and 8 bronze medals — to the graduates. The ‘Quaid-i-Azam Gold Medal’ was awarded to Abdul Samad Amjad (BBA) for his distinguished performance in curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Mian Anwar Mahmood, the chancellor of the university and chairman of the Punjab Group of Colleges, presented the university shield and souvenir to the chief guest.In the end, MAJU President Dr. Abdul Wahab congratulated the graduates and their parents.The news.
