Islamabad:Islamabad Crescent Lions Club (ICLC), Development Communications Network (DEVCOM-Pakistan), Saba Orphanage Homes and Directorate of Special Education arranged an Eid gift distribution ceremony at the Al-Farabi Special Education Centre, says a press release.
Syed Mustafain Kazmi, director general of the Special Education, and well-known actress and model Sadia Hyat Khan were the guests of honour. Over 500 special children were given Eid gift packs.
Nazia Jabeen, a recipient of gift pack, was happy to see a large number of people around her. She said: I feel its Eid today. I did not see many people coming to our school to give us gifts.
Though visually impaired Surriya Naaz was also happy after getting the Eid gift, but in sobbing voice she said: I can t see my gift.
Abid Hussain, inflicted with polio at an early age, expressed confidence that the education he was getting would help him in his future career. He was determined to work for awareness-raising to control polio in the country. He said: It was God s will. Otherwise I would have been a normal child. I would prove that I am no less than anyone.
Speaking on the occasion, Mustafain Kazmi said: We need to appreciate the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) sharing their time with special children on the joyous occasion of Eid. This should not be one time contribution but citizens should keep on contributing to make these children active citizens.
The government is facing shortage of funds and cannot do this task all alone. More people and organisations should play their role for strengthening of institutions working for the less privileged and marginalised ones.
Sadia Hyat Khan said: People from the glamour world should peep into the gloom of these physically challenged children and people. It is our moral duty as human beings to support these people. A smile or a few pats would add joy to their lives. Be generous on this occasion and always.
Nasira Jamil, president of the ICLC, said: It is just another occasion the Lions Club did not forget the less privileged and shared joy with them. It is symbolic to motivate others to come forward to mainstream the cause to work for special children.
Sibtain Raza Lodhi, coordinator of the event, thanked Saghir Ahmed Aslam of Saba Orphanage Homes for contributing most of the gift packs for special children. The news.
