Islamabad:On the request of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Leader of the House in Senate, Nayyar Bukhari, the government has approved affiliation of all the federal graduate and post-graduate colleges with the Quaid-i-Azam University.
This was stated by Vice Chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University, Professor Dr Masoom Yasinzai while speaking at the 26th convocation of Islamabad Model College for Girls (Post-Graduate) F-7/2, held here on Thursday.
A total of 35 post-graduates in Mass Communication while 246 at the bachelors level were awarded degrees by Professor Dr M. Masoom Yasinzai, Vice Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University who was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the convocation, Professor Yasinzai said it is heartening to know that the college is imparting quality education for the past 28 years. The role of a college as a seat of higher education is quite formidable. He said that the college has started its own FM channel in its state of the art studios of its Mass Communication Department. “Today you have taken a step towards greater responsibilities and the future of Pakistan lies on your shoulders. It is a two-fold responsibility on you, towards your family and towards your nation. You have to play your role in the eradication of illiteracy in the country,” he said.
Principal of Islamabad Model College for Girls (Post-Graduate) F-7/2, while presenting the college report said that the pass percentage of Masters in mass communication in the year 2010 was 100% out of 35 students who appeared in the Punjab University exams, 21 students attained 1st division. The voice of Margalla FM 98.6 started its transmission on March 2, 2011. A total of 137 students of B.A., 109 students of B.Sc and 35 Post Graduate Students were awarded degrees and certificates. Ten students received Roll of Honour for their outstanding performances in different university exams.
Azra Raza award was conferred to Sara Ahmed, a graduate of 2009, this year. A cash prize money of Rs50,000 for receiving highest marks in Urdu literature in the college. Rabia Naveed a post Graduate of 2007-2009 session stood first in her class in Punjab University was awarded Hameed Alvi Gold Medal. For extra curricular activities Sidra Imtiaz was declared best player for the session 2010.
