Hazara University 6th Convocation

Hazara: 29 May: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar has said that the education does not mean mere reading books but it is more than that and to achieve this sagacious goal, the universities must be the centres of wisdom and excellence; offering full life not only in respect of academic and research pursuits in every field but also sports, cultural and other co-curricular activities with debates, declamation contests etc. at the top. Addressing the 6th Convocation of the Hazara University at Dhodial in Mansehra as the chief guest on Monday, the Governor said, “being Muslims, it is our firm belief that the Allah Almighty is the greatest educationist; greatest engineer; greatest doctor of every field of life and all the related subjects; disciplines and creations are open for research studies for us. “We need to march ahead without with open mind in every field, whether it is energy sector or any other challenge of national, provincial and local nature and without any sort of differences and prejudices”, he added. In all 600 graduates; five got PhD degrees; 30 were honoured with M.Phil and the rests bagged master and bachelor of honour degrees in more than two dozen disciplines of science and arts whereas 75 amongst them were honoured with gold medals for achieving distinctive positions in their respective disciplines. Naveed Khan was declared the best graduate of the University for the Academic Year, 2010 while Muhammad Nawaz achieved this honour from amongst the students of private educational institutions affiliated to the university. Barrister Masood Kausar who is also the Chancellor of the University further stated that the 21st Century has dawned with challenges of greater nature as compared to the past for the nation and we are firmly confident that both the faculty and the institutions like the Hazara University will enable us to achieve a respectable status amongst the comity of nations. The Governor, who had earlier formally launched a model of solar hybrid car; a creation of the Physics Department of the University was highly impressed of the spirit and capabilities of the respective team of students and faculty members and announced a special prize of Rs. 50,000 for them. He also assured to help in carrying further the project under the aegis of the university. In fact, the Governor said, we need to correct the priorities especially in the field of education and though sufficient resources and importance is being put towards this particular sector presently yet it could not be described adequate, as far as the present demands are concerned. Referring to the points raised by the vice chancellor in his speech, the Governor said, the government is mindful of the incomplete construction projects and the pressing financial needs of the university and he will extend fullest support in overcoming them. Pointing towards the graduates, the governor said that they had now joined the ranks of that privileged class of the society, which comprises only one per cent amongst the youth group of the age of 17 – 24 years. With this unique honour, he added, they also owe a lot to their parents; family members and the nation at the large as well. He advised them to always be confident, up right, courageous and devoted to the professions, which they have chosen. The Vice Chancellor of the University, earlier welcoming the Governor said that the enrolment strength of the university in its three campuses has already crossed 9000 students with 350 faculty members including 100 PhD scholars. Seven more PhD scholars, he added, will be shortly joining the university after completion of their studies abroad while 20 are in the process to leave for PhD level studies in near future. Their alma mater, he added, stands 8th and 2nd in the national and provincial rankings of the universities and they are struggling to further improve it. The ceremony was largely attended by educationists, elite of the area, and parents of the graduates. Earlier, the Governor gave away degrees and medals to the graduates.
