Peshawar:05 July: Like other universities of the province, the Khyber Medical University (KMU) is also facing severe financial problems due to the cut in grant, withholding of the development fund and unjust distribution of funds by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
"The HEC could release only Rs6.98 million additional grant against the promised amount of Rs69.33 million for the increased salaries, revised allowances and accommodation," said a communiqué of the KMU on Wednesday.
It added that the KMU had adopted stringent austerity measures to adjust expenses within the available resources, adding, a ban had been imposed on filling the vacant positions, purchase of equipment and ensuring minimum use of electricity.
The statement said these measures would help overcome the financial deficit to some extent. "The university is facing problem in paying the arrears to its employees on account of increase in salary as announced by the government in the budget," it added. The news.
