Islamabad:25 April:THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Admission to medical colleges’ (April 5) by Mariyam Sohail. She has suggested that admission to public medical colleges should only be for those who cannot afford private medical colleges.

She has argued that admissions should be on the basis of income as well as on merit. I would like to ask why a candidate would take pains to get admission to a private medical college if he is on merit just because he is rich or can afford private medical college fee.

Private medical colleges are not good enough to produce cream of doctors. One gets best hospitals in the public sector for house jobs, while the teaching method is excellent.

Why should a brilliant student not go for public medical colleges just because he can afford private medical college?

It is really not a good idea that the government give admission on the basis of income. In fact, we should be proud of those children who can afford private medical colleges but they work hard to get admission to government medical colleges.F.P. Report.
