Islamabad: The 3-day National Symposium on Biodiversity of Pakistan will be held here from June 7-9, to discuss the biodiversity issues and mark the International Biodiversity Decade as declared by the United Nations.
Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) are organizing the symposium to create awareness on the importance of biodiversity upon which the survival of future generations depends, said PMNH Director General (DG) Syed Azhar Hasan.
Dr. Hasan said over 100 bio-scientists from across the country would participate in the Symposium and read their research papers. A limited number of posters have also been sought and top five posters will be published in the second volume of the book “Biodiversity of Pakistan”, the DG said, adding, themes for papers and posters include conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, systematic/taxonomy, environmental biology, aquatic biology, mountain ecosystems and wildlife and fisheries.
The DG said being focal organisation of biodiversity research, PMNH with the support of PSF and MoST is striving to highlight and address biodiversity issues through different programs.The news
