Passage of education bill hailed

ISLAMABAD, July 11: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has hailed the passage of the ‘Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act’ by the Senate and hoped that the provincial assemblies will initiate similar legislation for the out-of-school children in the country.

Unesco representative in Pakistan Dr Kozue Kay Nagata felicitated all the senators for approving the multi-party bill for the provision of free and compulsory education to all children of aged five to 16 in Islamabad.

In Islamabad, over 70,000 children are out of school and the ministry of Capital Administration and Development and the Federal Directorate of Education will have to launch special drive and increase their education budget to expand educational facilities in rural areas and urban slums and motivate parents to send their children to schools.Dawn.
