Peshawar University Establishment of Three New Departments

Peshawar: 07 June: The University of Peshawar Academic Council in its meeting held on Tuesday has agreed in principle for the establishment of three new departments namely Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Health and Physical Education and Department of Criminology at UoP. A committee headed by Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof. Dr. Farooq Swati, was constituted for the same to look into picking out relevant courses for the departments for further approval of the academic council and other relevant bodies.
The meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz was attended by Deans of faculties, all academic heads and gave approval of various academic courses including Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance, Human Resource Management etc.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Department of Environmental Sciences celebrated ‘The World Environment Day``. The department showed video to the members of the council highlighting the key environmental problems causing damage to the economy of the country.
Addressing the ceremony Chairperson Department of Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. Noor Jehan said that around 7% of the country`s budget is being used up for various man made and otherwise easy to handle environmental problems. She added that if proper care and preventive measures are taken by Government and public at large, this amount can be spent on other sectors.
The Chairman said eighty percent of diseases in the country are water borne. The prevalence of Hepatitis in Pakistan is one of the highest in world and we are ranked four in the number of HBS and HCV patients (in the world) while HIV is on constant incline as well, Dr. Noor Jehan added. She was of the opinion that due to poor water and sanitation arrangements, Tuberculosis could not be controlled and Pakistan is ranked eighth in it prevalence in the world. On average Pakistani citizens spend more than three hundred million dollars on health related issues in a year. That is why the theme of this environment day is Green Economy, `` Does it Include You``, the Chairman said. She announced setting up of a paper recycling plant at University Administration on behalf of her department as the first step towards contributing towards a green economy.
Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz presented resolution on the day in which students and employees of University of Peshawar will take all out measures for working towards a green economy. The resolution was unanimously passed by members of the academic council.
