Peshawar: 14 May: An operational inaugural ceremony of Centre for Nuclear and Molecular Studies, University of Peshawar was held at NMRL. The centre was formally inaugurated by Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz while Mr. Muhamamd Qayyum, Director of Regional Nuclear Safety Directorate Islamabad and Dr. Ihsanullah, Director NIFA (Atomic Energy Commission Pakistan) were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony the Vice Chancellor said that, establishment of a state of the art nuclear and molecular centre in UoP is a great achievement. He added that the centre would enable researchers to get real time data and its analysis in the shortest possible time.
Prof. Qibla Ayaz said, ``I have absolutely no doubt that Peshawar University Scientists are the best in the country and if they are provided with centre like the one made operational, they can do wonder for the country by maximsing efficient use of its resources with minimum operational cost``. Most of the developed countries of the world have far less natural resources than us but the fact is that they have utilized them in the best possible way. It is time now that we should follow the same pattern and stop depending on others for our needs, the Vice Chancellor maintained.
Director Centre for Nuclear and Molecular Studies, University of Peshawar briefed the audience about the facilities available at the centre for research scholars. He said that researchers of chemistry, biotech etc normally get analysis of their data from various centers in the country in three months which would now be possible in the shortest possible time of 30 minutes only. He added that they are planning to update one of their equipment already available at the centre which would enable us to do standing MRI of those patients who are not able lay their body down or sit for the MRI test.
The ceremony was attended by Registrar Dr. Syed Fazli Hadi, Dean Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. Amir Nawaz Khan, Treasurer Iftikhar Hussain Khan and students of the centre.
