Promotion of linguistic ties with Iran discussed

Islamabad:Cultural Counsellor of Iran Ali Agha Noori called on International Islamic University (IIU) Rector Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik here on Monday.

They discussed cooperation between the universities of Pakistan and Iran and proposals to promote Persian language in Pakistan and

Urdu language in Iran. Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmad Khwaja and Dr. Jawad Hamdani, assistant professor at the IIU Department of Persian, were present on the occasion.

Ali Agha Noori said that Iranian universities should develop exchange of research fellowships and students with the International Islamic University. He also suggested some proposals for promotion of linguistic relationships, which include scholarships for outstanding students from Iran, invitation of student teams by the government of Iran every year, establishment of Persian library at IIU and invitation of teachers to visit Iran.

The International Islamic University rector appreciated the suggestions of the Iranian cultural counsellor for the promotion of joint cooperation in the fields of research and linguistic developments. He said that such visits would further relations between the two countries.
He also invited Iranian government to offer scholarships for Pakistani students to promote Persian language. He invited Iranian scholars to teach at the Department of Islamic Studies of IIU. Later, IIU President Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad presented the university shield to the guest.The news.
