QUETTA:20 May: The All Government Teachers’ Association (AGTA) on Saturday refused to call off its hunger strike until death after talks between the association and the government failed.
More than 140 members of the association launched the hunger strike outside the Quetta Press Club 10 days ago to exert pressure on the government to accept their demands: restructuring of teachers’ time scale, increment in conveyance allowance and replacement of junior teachers from grades 18 and 19. Balochistan Education Minister Tahir Mehmood Khan and other officials visited the camp and assured the teachers that their demands were being reviewed. However, the teachers said they would not end their strike until and unless a notification accepting their demands was issued.Daily Times.
