ISLAMABAD:15March: Students of Islamabad and Rawalpindi schools have alleged that their canteen food is of very poor quality and despite several complaints no steps have been taken to deal with the issue.
Students complained that the food served in the canteens is substandard and unhygienic.
Unfortunately, the kind of foodstuff that appeals to most students and is generally considered more affordable is unhygienic street food. Whether bought at the school canteens or at vendor stalls outside the school gates, the food is of substandard quality and is often the cause of stomach ailments.
Talking to APP, Dr Aftab Ahmad said eating such food increases the cholesterol content and causes obesity and related problems among children.
He added that eating such things causes many other problems as well such as type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
He advised students to avoid canteen food, saying it is not only dangerous for their health but also leads to weight problems.
Many schools administrations allow outsiders to run canteens whose sole motive is to generate profit by selling cheap, substandard food items. app.
