QUETTA:27 May: A professor of the Balochistan University and his son were severally tortured by students on Saturday. As per details, some activists of the Baloch Students’ Organisation (BSO) and the Pashtoon Students’ Federation (PSF) exchanged hot words that resulted in a brawl. Professor Zahoor Ahmed Badini and his son Goharam intervened and tried to settle the issue between the student groups, but the PSF activists allegedly attacked the two, wounded them seriously. They were shifted to a hospital, where their condition was said to be serious. Hospital sources said the professor had received serious head injuries, while one of his legs had a fracture. Following the incident, dozens of members of the University of Balochistan Academic Staff Association, led by its president Prof Kaleemullah Barech, staged a demonstration in front of the Quetta Press Club to condemn the incident. They shouted slogans and demanded immediate arrest of the accused students. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Kaleemullah and Prof Abdul Saboor Baloch said the vice chancellor had failed to ensure security of teachers, as five teachers of the university had so far been killed. They demanded the government immediately remove the Balochistan University VC, adding that a massive protest would be launched if action was not taken against the accused within 24 hours.
