Peshawar: 26 May: The launching ceremony of annual Magazine of University of Peshawar College for Boys was held on Thursday. The magazine was launched by Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel while, VC, University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz, former Chairman of Urdu Department Nazir Tabassum, Registrar Dr. Syed Fazli Hadi, Principal UCB Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ishaq and others were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony Senator Adeel said that we as muslims have not abide by the first word of Quran sent to this world which is , ``IQRA``and this is the sole reason behind, that, today Pakistan is amongst countries with one of the lowest literacy rate in the world. He added that education and health are the basic necessities of life but our joint budget for both is less than three percent of the GDP which is very disheartening.
Mr. Adeel said we must enlighten our students with modern education and give them access to every kind of information, but at the same time they must be taught about the tremendous work done by our local heroes. Education means broadmindedness and adoption of accommodating behaviors and ideas. Teachers must play an important role in building these characters among students apart from giving them bookish education, Mr. Adeel maintained.
The Senator added that he donated 50 million rupees for the new building of this college in order to promote quality education in the form of a state of the art institution. The college has shown excellent performance in one and half year and I hope it would be become Islamia College of the future, he said. He appreciated the efforts of the students in launching a quality magazine and hoped that they will continue on improving their good work.
ice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz said that nations who have made investment in education and researches are ruling the world. He added that University of Peshawar like other higher education institutions is faced with financial; and space constraints etc. In such situation it is high time that we as employees of this University must not think of What this University can Give me, but should have the realization that, `` I am because of this University and do all out efforts to give it back to the mother institution in the form of improvement of the standards of Higher Education in the province and FATA``, he said.
