Peshawar: 28 Oct: Peshawar University has announced that Refurbishment and additional accommodation facility at the old buildings of the University of Peshawar is imperative because most of them are more than fifty years old and needs immediate repair and construction. This was stated by Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Azmat Hayat Khan after signing MoU with the US funded, Community Rehabilitation Infrastructure Support Programme, and CRISP. Under the MoU CRISP is going to donate a sum of Rs. Twenty million rupees to University of Peshawar for the renovation of Institute of Education and Research. The agreement was signed Manager CRISP Hanns Hohmann and Director IER Dr. Arbab Afridi on Thursday.
The Vice Chancellor said that in order to renovate old buildings of the University a meeting was held with the Planning Commission of Pakistan last week in which they have been kind enough to approve a PSDP budget of Rs. 605 million rupees for University of Peshawar. This fund would be used for upgrading and expansion the law college and other faculties.
In addition to that, funds will be used for the installation of solar-powered streetlights, renovation of hostels, strengthening of the Directorate of Works and Environmental Sciences Departments, construction of central parking sheds, up-gradation of Bara Gali Campus 2 and repair and reconstruction of roads, walkways and telephone exchange. If these funds are released timely, University can complete the development work in the stipulated time within the allocated budget, he added.
Manager CRISP Hanns Hohmann said that there could have been no better investment for his organization than contributing towards the education system of Pakistan especially University of Peshawar.
Director IER Arbab Afridi said that initially the institute was made for accommodating around one hundred students but the number of students gradually increased with the passage of time and now with the introduction of four years B.Ed ( Hons) programme more than four hundred students are enrolled at a time which is creating space problem for this institute. He thanked CRISP for their contribution in solving the space problem, with adding to the beautification of IER as well.
