Villagers lock school to protest staff shortage

NOWSHERA:February 10: Members of the parents and teachers association along with angry villagers on Thursday locked the Government High School Wazir Garhi to protest lack of teaching staff and other basic facilities in the school.

The protesters led by president of the Parents and Teachers Association, Fida Muhammad, were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the district education officials.

They said the GHS Wazir Garhi has five teachers and two of them, including the teacher for Arabic and the Drawing Master, were on long leave. They claimed that six designated vacancies including that of principal were vacant at the school.

The protesters said that no academic activities in the school had yet been started despite the fact that the session would end next month. They said there were no teachers for science subjects and the posts of Senior English Teacher (EST) and Physical Training Instructor (PTI) were lying vacant affecting the curricular and co-curricular activities.

On the occasion, Musa Khan Baba, Anar Gul Shahji, Kifayat and others said that they had appealed to Executive District Officer (EDO-Education), Hasnat Gul, Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, MNA Tariq Khattak, PPP Provincial President Senator Sardar Ali Khan to take note of the situation, but to not avail.

When contacted, EDO Hasnat Gul said that he had not been informed about the lack of teaching staff and other issues at the school. He said that locking the school by the residents was an unlawful act. He added the lack of staff and provision of furniture in the school would be resolved soon. Meanwhile, the district coordination officer ordered an inquiry into the incident.The news.
