ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) young doctors' strike entered 5th day on Friday. From the last 5 days young doctors at PIMS are going out on strike daily from 11am to 2pm. They boycotted the out patients department of all the components of PIMS including the main OPD of the hospital, children hospital, mother and child hospital, and the burn centre. However the emergency services, critical areas and operation theatres' services were not suspended. The doctors who are pressing for an increment in their salaries rally and chant slogans in front of the administration block and Executive Director Dr Mehmood Jamal's office. They are demanding a revision of their service structure and are seeking regular appointment of those who were hired on contract. The postgraduate doctors, medical officers, and faculty members joined the young doctors in protest. They blocked the road in front of PIMS Friday and threatened to completely boycott the OPD, indoor departments of the main hospital, children, mother and child health, and the burn centre on from 8am to 2pm.The protesters came hard on ED Dr Mehmood Jamal and the Ministry of Health for their silence over the issue. Young Doctors Association president Dr Sajid Abbasi and the Executive Committee members Dr Asfand Yar, Dr Awais, and Dr Bashir addressed the doctors and vowed not to step back from their demands i.e. mounting the pay of professors to Rs 300000, Assistant Professor's to Rs 200,000, Senior Registrar's to Rs 120000, Medical Officer's to Rs 80000, House Officer's to Rs 35000, and postgraduate resident's to Rs 70000.
