SWABI: The teaching community has attached great expectations with the Prime Minister expected announcement of new service structure on March 23 and they hope that the government would take meaningful measures for the solution of their problems, confronting by them for the last few decades. This was stated by the teaching community in the Kalabat Teachers Society meeting which was presided over by Malik Khalid Khan, provincial president of All Primary Teachers Association here on Tuesday. The participants said that despite the recognition that without boosting teachers’ status in the society it might be difficult to impart quality education to the youths, the importance of the teachers had been ignored by the previous governments, pushing the teaching community into financial difficulties. However, they said that the finalization of the new service structure and completion of the pay and pension committee report they expect that the PPP government finally realised the gravity of the situation, taking steps for the teachers betterment. Meanwhile President of All Teachers Association, Abdul Latif said on Tuesday that the finance department should give up “delaying tactics” after the Peshawar High Court verdict in favour of the teachers in contempt of court case in the advance increment on higher qualification. He said that the finance department had strived to kill the advance increment of the teachers but the teaching community finally succeeded to won their right after a prolong struggle. Pressure tactics: The government contractors belong to the opposition parties alleged that despite the continued efforts of officials of Works and Services department they failed to foil the pressure tactics of politicians. In a meeting on Tuesday they alleged that the district political heavyweights indulged in ‘pressure tactics’ while forcing the officials to award contracts to their supporters due to unknown reasons. They demanded that the political pressure should not be applied in awarding of contracts and the officials of the Works and Services have the right to decide every contract on basis of merit. They said that the political meddling caused weakening of the institutions and the politicians should work for the strengthening of hands of the officials concerned in the best interest of the masses.F.P.
