PESHAWAR: Section-7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (7-ATA) has been included in the first information report (FIR) in the murder case of a student of the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology (NUET) allegedly at the hands of the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) activists, a source told The News.
The family and friends of Adnan Abdul Qadir, a final year student of the NUET who was killed during a clash between two student groups, had demanded inclusion of 7-ATA in the FIR lodged against nine IJT activists.
The authorities of the capital city police, it is learnt, approved the demand after consulting with the legal experts. Hence the concerned police station was directed to include the non-bailable section in the FIR against nine students. One of them was arrested from Karak while the rest are still at large.
“The authorities formally approved inclusion of the 7-ATA in the FIR lodged in the murder of Adnan Abdul Qadir and beating of his other friends. Mow it has been formally incorporated,” an officer of the capital city police confirmed.
Adnan Abdul Qadir, who hailed from Bannu district and had got married only six months back, was killed while five other students were wounded in a clash between two student groups over music at Hostel-III of the NUET on March 11.
The IJT activists allegedly beat these students when they refused to stop playing music, which, according to IJT students, was interrupting the Seerat-un-Nabi Conference being held at the hall of Hostel-III. IJT activists have denied involvement in the murder.
The five injured students were taken to the hospital where Adnan remained in coma and later expired on the sixth day.
His friends and activists of anti-IJT groups were provoked over the death, and they broke the gates of the hostel and ransacked the rooms occupied by the IJT activists.
The four universities at the Peshawar university campus had to be closed due to the rumpus. Two universities and girls’ colleges at the campus have recently been opened on condition of submission of affidavit by all the male students not to become involved in political activities.
Political activities have also been banned at the Peshawar University campus while
hostels were cleared after a clean-up operation against outsiders and alleged troublemakers. More hostels are likely to be cleared in the coming days. The news
