Peshawar: 07 July: Fee waiver of around fifty four million has been extended to the UoP students of Malakand Division for two academic years, i.e: 2008-09 and 2010-11. This was revealed by Director Admission Prof. Dr. Hizbullah while giving briefing to Voice Tel Tech Private Limited, the contractor firm which is conducting monitoring on the use of USAID financial budget provided to Universities for furnishing fee waiver to students of IDP families affected from Swat Insurgency.
He said that upon the directives of the provincial government University waived off fee amounting to Rs. Twenty seven million to, 1384 IDP`s students from swat in the year 2008. But University of Peshawar was then compensated by USAID, and funds for IDP`s students were released through Higher Education commission, he added.
Dr. Hizbullah said that financial support of twenty four thousand rupees for each UoP student of swat will be provided for the year 2010-11 which will have a total financial impact of around twenty seven million. The total number of UoP IDP`s students who are going to be provided financial relief of twenty four thousand each will be 1122 and their names would be notified in a weeks time, he concluded.
Treasurer Dr. Sanaullah said that the financial support provided for IDP`s have helped the students from war affected swat a grate deal in pursuing their studies, without which it would have been very difficult for them to continue studies. USIAD and HEC must also consider financial assistance for the flood affected and students of FATA, he added.
