PESHAWAR: Khyber Medical University (KMU) has launched Master’s in Health Profession Education (MHPE) programme for the first time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Prof Dr Muhammad Hafizullah, vice-chancellor of the KMU, inaugurated the programme at a ceremony held on the new campus near the Shalman Park in Hayatabad. Founding vice-chancellor of the university Prof Dr Mohammad Daud was chief guest on the occasion.

Dr Hafizullah said the programme would enable the health professionals to bring about necessary changes in training of health educators in accordance with global challenges and local needs.

Dr Daud said the education of health professionals had a direct effect on improving human resources for health in support of national priorities. He said the focus has moved from scientific and technical to include a more practical and applied approach in the context of the social responsibility of medical schools and a commitment to the integration of teaching experiences and teacher development for day-to-day work. He said new advancements in learning methods, assessment of students, curriculum design, faculty development and the evaluation of programmes for health professions education had created an imperative for capacity building among professors in health institutions in the country.

He said the programme included building of the capacity of the health professionals, improvement in the conduct and students assessment at all levels and application of approaches to the rigorous evaluation of curriculum and new programmes.

Dr Hafizullah said that the MHPE degree was designed to help educators to develop the necessary skills to lead educational enterprise through a rapidly changing health sciences environment.The news.
