LAHORE (APP): Urdu Science Board (USB) must be provided with more financial and human resources to efficiently embark upon its task of translation and printing of science and technology books, published globally, from different languages into Urdu language in the larger interest of general readers especially the youth. Briefing reporters in his office here on Wednesday, the USB Director Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Rashid said that during last year, the Board published 22 new books and re-printed another 24, besides providing books (Urdu version) on technical subjects to Sindh government for vocational training in that province under Benazir Youth Development Programme. National Centre for Technical Education was also provided charts and teachers' training manuals, and 100,000 books given to Punjab School Libraries Project, he added. "The Board is receiving excellent feedback from readers community and institutions of the country, however, more finances and human resources are needed to properly encompass the whole paradigm in this regard," he maintained. To a question, he said, publishing of new books involve huge finances but the board is making arrangements through revenue generated from sale of its books, adding, "We are also running short of Research Officers to ensure speedy and thorough review of books on scientific and other topics, which can be very helpful in enhancing knowlege of the general readers and educated class of society." Elaborating the current fiscal year's projects of the Board, he said the USB with financial assistance of Wold Wide Fund Pakistan(WWF-P) would publish a 10-volume encyclopedia "Ecological System of Pakistan" to be beneficial for students from middle to higher secondary level. Dr. Ghafoor said, the Foreign Office had entrusted the USB to printing the 5th Edition of 'Bio Safety and Bio Security Manual' (Urdu version), a project of the OIC and Academy of Sciences, USA. The Urdu Science Board is also publishing 150 books under Urdu Science Series Project, besides under taking two projects by National Museum of Science and Technology, Lahore, either publishing in book form the ten documentaries (English language) on various scientific topics, and another book containing information about scientific and technical aspects of jewellery industry. To another question, he said, "This year, the board is also bringing out 12 new books on new topics, and reprinting of editions of its 24 books following high market demand." F.P.Report
