Our Nation

A large number of Muslims Christians Hindus and Harijans live in Pakistan. Most of them are Pakistanis while some are not. When we talk of our nation we think of the nationals of Pakistan alone and not of the foreigners who live here for a number of years and then back to their own country.
About ten million people live in Pakistan. They were counted n 1961. Out of this number 49 millions are Bengalis who live in Eastern Pakistan while 22 million Punjabis 6 million Sindhis half a million Baluchis and 4 million Pathans live in West Pakistan. The rest of us live in states that have joined Pakistan. According to the people living in this country Pakistan is the fifth largest state in the world.
We hold an important position among the nations of the world. We must play our part as such. This can be done in so many ways. God has given us many precious gifts. We are rich in food grains cotton jute and so many other things. Ours is a rich nation and a strong one too. But how can we make it stronger still?
It is not gold alone that makes a nation. It is the men that make it strong. In order to make our nation strong we want men who work while others sleep who dare while others fly and who stand fast and suffer long.
Of course such men are not made in a day. They are not bricks that can be turned out in a day in large numbers. They are living beings. They grow slowly. A lazy boy becomes a lazy man and a brave boy turns out to be a brave man in the course of years. Those who want to make their nation strong they should become strong themselves. The strength of each girl and each boy and that of each woman and each man put together make a nation strong. If any link of the chain is weak the whole chain breaks under the weight.
There are so many ways of making ourselves strong. Lives of great men tell us how we become great by serving our nation and by working day and night for its glory. It was hard work of one person. Mr. Jinnah that made us a nation. It can be better imagined than described that strength our nation will gain by the hard work of all of us.
