Once a rich farmer was going to a fair. He saddled his horse and was about to start. His syce told him that one of the horse's shoes wanted a nail. It matters little said the farmer I shall see to it at the fair. When he had gone half way the horse's shoe came off. By this time he was riding through a forest and he did not like to stop or slacken his speed. But the path was hard and stony and the horse began to limp.
Much against his will the farmer had to get down and walk beside his horse. He had hardly gone a quarter of mile when two robbers sprang upon him and made good their escape with his horse and money. The farmer returned home sadder but wiser. He realize that it was all for a nail.
