MARDAN, March 11: The private educational institutions in Mardan city have yet to implement the Peshawar High Court decision regarding fee concession to siblings studying in the same school, it is learnt.
A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court comprising Chief Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel had dismissed a month ago four writ petitions filed by leading private educational institutions opposing the fee concession. The court had ordered the private schools to implement a notification to grant concessions in fee to sisters and brothers studying in the same school.
However, it was learnt that the managements of private schools in the city had been admitting siblings under the old fee structure and some of them had also raised admission fee and other dues.
When this scribe contacted the management of City School and Beaconhouse School System about the fee concession to siblings, they said they were admitting siblings under the old fee structure. They, however, pointed out that they had sent recommendations in the light of the court decision to their headquarters located in Karachi and Lahore.
The management of Saint Andrews School System said that as per their policy they could only grant 20 percent concession in admission fee to one of the siblings.
Hamid Khan, whose two sons are studying in a private school, said that he was unable to meet the expenditures as the school had increased fee and other dues manifold.
He said the court decision regarding fee concession was a blessing for the parents but unfortunately the private schools were not implementing the order.
Kifayat Khan, whose son studies in a private school, said that only elite class could afford the fees charged by the private educational institutes.
It is learnt that besides normal fees, the private schools also make students to pay funds on several occasions, which puts extra burden on the pockets of their parents. The parents appealed to the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court to take notice of the matter.Dawn
