Ebad gives Rs100m grant to Dow University of Health Sciences Karachi

KARACHI - Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad announced Rs 100 million research grants for Dow University of
Health Sciences (DUHS) on the request of Sindh Health Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed. He also declared the
increment in the stipends of Postgraduate Doctors in Sindh from Rs 12,000 to Rs 22,000 following the initiative
of the Punjab Government.
He was speaking as chief guest at the first convocation of Dow University of Health Sciences held at the Ojha
Campus of Dow University on the August 16, 2009. The Minister of Health Dr Sagheer Ahmed the
Pro-Chancellor of the University also attended the convocation.
Almost 800 Medical and Nursing graduates of the two batches of 2008 and 2009 were awarded their degrees.
A large number of dignitaries, parents and physicians attended this convocation. The Governor of Sindh Dr
Ishrat ul Ebad as the Chancellor of the University in his address to the Convocation congratulated the graduates
and their parents. He lauded the efforts of honour holders and reminded all graduates of the responsibility that
has been placed on their shoulders as medical practitioners. He also appreciated the efforts of Professor
Hameed Khan and his faculty members in the establishment and the development of the University. He said that
it is essential for us to ensure that the investment of country into our education would well return to the society. He
reminded the young graduates even then the Pakistan is an under-developed country but quality medical
education was provided to them on very subsidised rates the country supports health care system with aim of the
