Technology Park Plan
FAISALABAD, Sept 18: As many as six universities and the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) have decided to join hands to set up a technology park and strengthen liaison between the industry and the seats of higher learning.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at the FCCI on Tuesday, attended by the GC University & Women University Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Zakir Hussain, University of Agriculture VC Dr Iqrar Ahmad, Fast University VC Aftab Ahmad, University of Faisalabad VC Dr Abdul Kareem Baloch, National University of Modern Languages Regional Director Abdul Waheed and NFC Institute of Engineering Director Dr Shahid Raza Malik.
The park will provide a viable mechanism for finding solution to industry-related issues, besides serving as a platform for sharing research and development work.

At the meeting, Dr Zakir Husain offered 100 acres at the new campus of the Government College for Women University for setting up the technology park, terming it crucial to development of Faisalabad.

He urged the FCCI officials to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the GCUF to establish a model school of international standard on the varsity premises.

He said efforts would also be made to induct leading businessmen in the varsity syndicate.

Aftab Ahmad, deploring rising illiteracy in Pakistan, said, “We must concentrate on our efforts to check the menace.” Stressing importance of information technology he proposed a software house in Faisalabad for development of that vital sector of national economy.

He also proposed establishment of an IT Park and urged the business community to play its role for its establishment.Dawn.
