BS programmes to be launched in all K-P colleges

PESHAWAR:06 December:The higher education department of the province has been directed to take the necessary measures to launch a bachelor of studies (BS) programme in all colleges of the province apart from starting a second shift in colleges on a need basis.

This was directed on Tuesday by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan while chairing a meeting to review the progress made by the provincial Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department in Peshawar on Tuesday.

Participants of the meeting were given a briefing about the overall performance and reforms initiatives undertaken by the department. They were told that over the past two years, 19 new colleges had been established in different districts of the province while work is underway on establishing 51 more colleges. Further, it was informed that some 1,900 new posts for lecturers had been recently approved to overcome shortages in colleges. Further, Rs2.546 billion had been approved by the provincial government for providing missing facilities in some 177 colleges of the province.

The chief minister directed the respective quarters to make all newly-established colleges in the province functional without any delay. Stressing on the need for restructuring the department, Mahmood directed the authorities concerned to submit workable proposals to this effect.

He further ordered the early completion of the restructuring process of the Education Testing and Evaluation Authority.Published in The Express Tribune, December 6th, 2020.
