PMA lauds CM’s move to ouster BB medical varsity’s VC
Karachi :July 23: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has lauded the decision of the Sindh chief minister to remove the vice chancellor of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University Larkana from his post.
The PMA said the ousted vice chancellor, Dr Akbar Soomro, was the driving force behind the opening of evening classes at the Chandka Medical College that violated the rules and regulations of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
A meeting of the Pakistan Medical Association was held on Monday at the PMA House Karachi.
The meeting was attended by former president of the association Prof Tipu Sultan, Secretary General Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, Treasurer Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, Karachi President Dr Idrees Adhi, Karachi General Secretary Dr Qazi M Wasiq, Dr Hamid Manzoor, Dr Ahmed Bhimani, Dr Khalil Mukadam, and Dr Aziz Khan Tank.

PMA Abbottabad President Dr Muhammad Azhar Khan Jadoon, and joint secretaries of Lahore and Quetta Dr Shahid Malik and Dr IB Baloch participated in the meeting through video links.

The participants of the meeting welcomed the decision of Chief Minister Qaim Ali shah and it was pointed out that the PMA had raised its voice against the evening classes in medical colleges from day one when the idea was floated in 2011.

The PMA believes that evening classes in medical colleges are nothing but a fraud. If they are allowed to continue, they will destroy the already substandard-level medical education in the country and produce quacks having MBBS degrees.

The PMA requested the chief minister to bring an end to the evening classes at the Chandka Medical College Larkana which have commenced from July 16.
