Forty Per cent of Public Schools Sans Facilities
Lahore, Sept 10: Some 40 per cent of public sector schools in the province are still without basic facilities, says a PML-Q fact-sheet on the educational programme of the PML-N’s Punjab government.
The fact-sheet was presented by PML-Q’s Imran Masood, MPAs Amer Sultan Cheema and Dr Muhammad Afzal here on Monday.
It says despite the passage of the 18th amendment the Punjab government has failed to provide free education to the children aged between five and 16 years.
During the PML-N previous and current tenures huge amount was wasted on laptop and solar schemes. The literacy department which during the tenure of Pervaiz Elahi (2002-07) had helped increase literacy rate up to 62 per cent, the Punjab government has now made it ineffective and its employees are deprived of several months salaries.”

It says owing to such steps the Punjab government may not achieve 100 per cent literacy in the province under the millennium development goals target.

It says while 40 per cent of over 62,000 public schools are without basic facilities. The government is spending a huge amount from education budget on a few Daanish schools which should be diverted to these thousands of schools.

The fact-sheet says the Punjab government has not yet removed the flaws in the computerised system. Under the system the failed students are getting passed and vice-a-versa.

It says the government should also provide financial assistance to girl students. During Mr Elahi’s tenure, Rs200 monthly was given to 1.1 million girl students of 15 under-privileged districts of Punjab.Dawn.
