KC registrar resigns

LAHORE:REGISTRAR of the Kinnaird College for Women Dr Naima Khursheed resigned from her post on Friday and joined the college’s Department of Persian.

KC Principal Dr Bernadette L Dean said Dr Naima had extended the resignation on her own which was accepted and confirmed that after her resignation, she had joined the college’s Department of Persian as its head.

However, according to sources, a meeting of the KC Board of Governors was held on Friday which offered termination letter to Dr Naima but after involvement of some members, it was decided that the official should herself submit resignation.

Before her posting as registrar, Dr Naima was serving the Department of Persian of the KC. The KC teachers had highlighted the issue of Dr Najma’s illegal appointment in late 2009. However, the controversy over the appointment intensified in December 2009 when seven faculty members were removed by the principal. The removal of the teachers was termed victimisation for raising voice against the registrar.

Taking notice of frequent protests by the KC students, the Punjab chief minister had formed an inquiry tribunal which had recommended removal of registrar. It was further learnt that the post of KC registrar would soon be advertised. The news
