TEVTA Female enrollment doubles in three years
LAHORE:08 April: Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said that moving towards women empowerment TEVTA  has increased number of female students from 23,000 per annum to 46,000 per annum.

Addressing a meeting of TEVTA Officials at the secretariat on Wednesday, Sheikh said that female enrollment at TEVTA’s institutes was 23,000 in session 2013-14. When he took charge, he pledged to double these numbers and now for session 2016-17 female enrollment remained 46,000, he revealed. He said that for session 2017-18, these numbers will be doubled by enrolling more than 90,000 female students.

He said that women play an important role in the development of every society. We, however, have realised this fact now and were working for educating more and more women in vocational and technical sector, he said.

Three years ago when he took charge as TEVTA chairman, he took measures which resulted in double numbers of female enrollment.

The chairman said that for increasing these numbers, a roadmap had been prepared according to which several female specialised courses will be started in 2018. He added that among top of these courses was Assistant Nursing course which will be started in collaboration with Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU). This course was specific for females which would provide employment to thousands of women across the largest populated province of Pakistan, he added.

Sheikh said that besides this course, enrollment will also be doubled in other courses including driving, IT, beautician, cooking, tailoring, designing and Chinese language. Along with increasing female enrollment, these courses will also be started in every district of Punjab, he revealed.

Another important fact is that TEVTA in collaboration with Akhuwat Foundation provide interest free loans to its students, he said adding that female students are always given priority for provision of loans through this initiative. He further explained that his loan amount can help females to start their own business at smaller scale which would further help them in supporting their families.

Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh also urged the young women to enroll in the E Rozgar program as this initiative is the latest and can provide immediate income for them. He also advised them to work along with men to enhance their standard of living. He also said that the ratio of females getting employment is better than males when it comes to the technical and vocational education.  According to a recent research ratio of getting sick for the children of working women is lower than the children of house wives. The Express Tribune.
