Karachi University fails to provide results via SMS

Karachi, June 05, 2008: The examination department of the Karachi University (KU) has failed to provide results via short-message service (SMS) to students in accordance with its announcement in March.

The university has also failed to announce degree results in time due to the inefficiency of checkers and decided to set up a spatial hall for the purpose of copy checking under the vigilance of the examination department, learnt on Wednesday.

The KU administration is going to hold a meeting to talk over the issues related to the examination department. "The meeting will deem over the immediate issuance of results of different examinations."

When contacted, Controller of Examinations Prof Maqsood Hussain said that the decision of issuing results via SMS was taken to facilitate students; hence, the KU had made agreement with Key frame Interactive for providing the service that will allow students to get their results at a rate of Rs 14 per SMS. Apparently, it seems that the facility will not be continued because Key frame Interactive is no more interested to provide such facility to the students, he added.

As far as the delay in degree results is concerned, he said, this problem is related to the inefficiency of the copy-checkers because they do not back copies to the department on time after their assessment.

However, results of the degree examinations should have been issued in the last month of May as the degree's examinations were ended in the last of January, but the teachers did not cooperate with the department in context of providing exam copies on time, he added.

He said, "Such delay in assessment of the examination copies causes further delay in declaration of results, causing frustration to students. However, the department endeavours its best to declare results on given time, for which the department holds meetings and issues letters to copy-checkers to persuade them to assess exam copies on time."

"The KU administration is going to take some steps to declare results on time. In this regard, the administration is going to hold a meeting to discuss the possible measures so as to overcome the shortcomings of the examination department. In this regard, the KU administration is likely to set up a spatial hall for the purpose of copy checking. After the setting up of the hall copy-checkers will be forced to assess copies there under the vigilance of the examination department. This step will enable us to declare results on given time," he argued. The Nation
