MAO College to reopen tomorrow
Our Staff Reporter
LAHORE - Government MAO College will reopen on May 2 (tomorrow) after a three days closure following a clash between the two rival groups of students in the college.
The college premises are virtually under the siege of police, which guarded the entire premises and the main gate. The teaching and non-teaching staff attended the college on Wednesday while there was strict vigilance on the gate. The situation was, however, tense while the principal performed his duties. More police staff is likely to be posted on May 2 as precaution measures. However, the entire masterminds of the clash were in police custody and there was no likelihood of any trouble on Friday (tomorrow).
Meanwhile, the college authorities were scrutinizing the record of admission forms to ascertain the extent of irregularities in the admissions. They seized at least 900 admission forms duly filled and attached with documents, from the office of the student groups from whom the authorities claim they have taken handsome amount. Wall chalking of MSF slogans was also cleared from the college’s outer wall.
Principal College Muhammad Khan said that he has expelled both of the parties of the students involved in clashes in the college as they were looters and being backed by certain influential people. He said that the Punjab government has instructed him to deal with such miscreants with iron hands.
He said that the police have recovered more than 800 admission forms of the students, which were submitted to the so-called students leaders and also deposited their fee to them. To a question, whether college administration would provide any sort of relief to students who were misused by the miscreants, he said no, as they bargained with them outside the college so the administration was not responsible for it.
He revealed that the said students looted the applicants of admission with the connivance of former Principal College Syed Maqsood-ul-Hassan Bukhari who referred the applicants to such looters instead of redressal of their complaints.
Mr Khan said that the services of Maqssod had been terminated as he was already serving after the retirement on extension in service.
