About Government College of Technology Multan, Pakistan
The government of Pakistan formulated a committee in 1954 to estimate the nation's requirements in the polytechnic field which would precede the future plans of the government. The report of this committee unveiled the scarcity of such technicians who could work as foremen or other sub-engineers; considered as backbone of any industry. Therefore, the government decided to set up three polytechnic institutes in both East and West Pakistan; in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Dhaka. The Government Polytechnic Institute in Multan was set up in 1965. Initially, it provided training in Electrical and Mechanical Technology only. Later in 1966, training courses in Chemical Technology were started. The first batch of students completed their training in 1968. The institute was upgraded to the status of college in 1974, with the introduction of B-Tech Degree Courses in Chemical Technology.
This institute was given under the control of TEVTA from the Department of Education and also earned the status of Special Institution later.
