SZABIST its ‘Orientation 2013’ at Expo Centre
Karachi :August 04: Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) held its ‘Orientation 2013’ at the Expo Centre on Saturday.
The event was attended by more than 3,500 people, including newly-enrolled students, their parents, corporate delegates and SZABIST faculty and staff, while Sindh Education & Literacy Senior Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was chief guest on the occasion.
In his address, Khuhro expressed strong views about the importance of education in today’s rapidly progressing world. “Quality educational institutions such as SZABIST are essential for Pakistan’s progress, and the success of this university, founded by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, is testament to the fact that true intentions make institutions,” he said.
SZABIST President Dr. Saqib Rizavi also offered words of wisdom in his address, stressing upon the need for students to constantly challenge themselves throughout the course of studies. “You have to try new things, each one of you will have a different university experience, as you will all be separately discovering where your interest lies,” he said.
Dr. Rizavi also spoke of the increasing standards of SZABIST, stating that HEC Pakistan has ranked the university as one of the best business schools of Pakistan in their recent Quality Based Ranking. “Furthermore, The Chartered Inspection and Evaluation Committee (CIEC) awarded a six-star status to all our programs, while our Mechatronics department has been rated as a ‘world class’ department,” he added.
Academics Vice President Dr Amanat Ali Jalbani offered encouragement to the newly-inducted students, stating that the accepted candidates are a mere 21 percent of the total applicants.
Pakistan’s current education scenario is such that only 72 percent of the population enrolls in a school, only 52 percent of whom actually reach the last grade of primary school. Most shockingly, however, only 6 percent of the population has access to university-level education,” he said.
