KU Noted Scholar Dr Farman Fatehpuri Passes Away
Karachi: 04 August: Noted writer, scholar and critic Prof Dr Farman Fatehpuri passed away here on Saturday. He was 85. He leaves behind two sons and four daughters to mourn his death.
Dr Farman Fatehpuri served as a Professor Emeritus at the University of Karachi.
His son Engr Syed Abrar Ali is serving as the Registrar of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) and two of his daughters are teaching at the Faculty of Arts, University of Karachi.
Dr Farman Fatehpuri has written over 50 books on various subjects and topics in Urdu. He also enjoyed good reputation in Urdu linguistic field. He had special association with Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and would never miss a function organised in his memory by the university.
His funeral prayers will be offered at Masjid Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Block 13-D/1, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and he will be laid to rest at the Karachi University’s graveyard on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Chancellor SSUET Engr Adil Usman and Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Jawaid H. Rizvi expressed their grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Dr. Farman Fatehpuri.
In their condolence messages, they paid him tributes for his contributions for the promotion of Urdu, saying, in the death of Dr Farman Fatehpuri, the literary world has lost a great writer and author.
They prayed the Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
Our correspondent adds: Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain expressed his shock and grief over the demise of Dr Farman Fatehpuri and demanded that a road, street, library or a park should be named after the late scholar for his great services rendered in the filed of literature and culture.
He said that Fatehpuri was a renowned scholar, researcher, historian educationist and author of many books, whose death caused a great loss to the nation as it deprived the people of a true sympathising elder and a champion of truthfulness, knowledge and civilisation.
The MQM chief, who was talking to the members of Rabita Committee at the MQM headquarters, Nine Zero, in Azizabad, observed that that Fatehpuri’s death had saddened him. He pointed out that the late scholar had acquired a distinguished status in literature across the world.
Dr Fatehpuri had a unique and heart-touching style of addressing, talking and dealing, Hussain said, adding that he was a man of wonderful personality.
He said the death of Prof Fatehpuri was a great loss to the people of Pakistan and especially it grieved those who had come to Pakistan from India as he had played a courageous role in spreading the truth. Hussain said that the Haq Parast masses would never forget the great services rendered by Dr Fatehpuri for the cause of truth.
