Punjab University scientist discovers Bio-Insecticide
LAHORE (APP): Ms Deeba Noreen Baig, a PhD scholar working with Prof A R Shakoori of Punjab University's School of Biological Sciences (SBS), has discovered an environment friendly Bio-Insecticide from bacteria that can be used against cotton pests/insects. Defending her PhD thesis entitled "Cloning and Molecular Characterization of cry1Ac Gene from Local Isolates of Bacillus thuringiensis" in a public seminar attended by VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Directors SBS Prof Dr A R Shakoori, Prof Dr Javed Iqbal, Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, senior faculty members and students, Deeba Noreen Baig highlighted the importance of the finding and said that commercial trials in coming years will clear the genetically engineered product for commercial use by Pakistani companies.
