Community school teachers demand regular jobs
MARDAN:12 June: As many as 11,000 teachers of Basic Education Community schools could lose jobs if their services are not regularised.
Last year, the government had signed an agreement with these teachers, promising to give them permanent jobs. But no measures have been taken in this regard so far.
Nagina, a teacher who is associated with the Basic Education Community School in Mardan told The Express Tribune that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Ministry for Elementary and Secondary Education Department (K-PESED) had given them written assurances last year that the services of some 11,000 teachers associated with these schools will be regularised. Despite repeated requests, no one has paid any attention to their plight, she informed.
She added that hundreds of thousands of students are enrolled in 137 community schools across the country.
A year after signing an agreement which promised that all teachers will be made permanent, no orders have been issued [by the government] in this regard, she complained.
Nagina further said that besides teachers, the future of hundreds of thousands of students is also at risk. The government needs to listen to the demands of teachers and address it immediately so that the future of students and teachers associated with these schools can be saved, she said.Published in The Express Tribune, June 12th, 2020.
